Training as a Licensed Practitioner

What qualifications do I need to train to be a Licensed Practitioner for Understanding your Eating (UyE)?

You must be:

• Either a counsellor,* trained to at least Diploma level, with an interest in disordered eating**
• Or a professional within healthcare, social work or other relevant field, with knowledge and experinece of working with people with disordered eating*

* Please note that training as a hypnotherapist is not regarded as a sufficient training without further training as a counsellor.

**Disordered eating means eating behaviour which may or may not have been diagnosed as a formal eating disorder, but which causes clients/patients great distress and interferes with the way they live their lives and their enjoyment of life. It includes those who have difficulty with controlling their weight, but also those whose relationship with food is bad even if their weight is normal.

What is the relationship between Licensed Practitioners and Understanding your Eating as an organisation?

• Understanding your Eating is run on a training and listing model.
• When you complete the training you can apply to become a Licensed Practitioner. Please note UyE materials are copyright and may not be used without prior permission.  UyE also reserves the right to assess trainees' suitability for the role.

As a Licensed Practitioner

• You will be listed on the Understanding Your Eating website as a Licensed Practitioner for an annual fee.
• You will be invited to periodic team meetings to learn more about the continually developing content of UyE courses.
• You will be offered the opportunity to purchase the course manuals, the client workbooks and Professor Buckroyd's book "Understanding Your Eating".
• You will be given the opportunity to have your work with eating disordered clients supervised by Prof Buckroyd.  This may be done using Skype if appropriate.  This will incur an additional charge.

Finance

The intention is to enhance your earnings as a counsellor when the UyE Programme is delivered in private practice or to make the Programme available to not-for-profit organisations such as counselling agencies or the NHS. 

What does the training to be a UyE Licensed Practitioner entail?

• Trainings are currently in London and Edinburgh.
